Support long-term research and conservation

Your support helps us monitor Colombo’s urban fishing cat population and apply that knowledge through research, conservation, education, and wildlife management.

Why donate

Why your support matters

The Urban Fishing Cat Conservation Project is an independent research programme. Maintaining long-term ecological research requires returning to the same places, year after year, while responding to new conservation challenges as they emerge. Donations provide the flexibility to continue fieldwork, maintain equipment, investigate new questions, and build on more than a decade of research.

Funding in practice

What your donation supports

Donations are allocated across the project’s research, conservation, education, and public-engagement activities according to current needs and priorities.

  • Protect wildlife
Long-term conservation begins with understanding what wildlife is doing and where it lives. Donations support camera trapping, field research, specialist equipment, transport, and repeat surveys that allow us to monitor fishing cats and other wildlife across changing landscapes.
  • Build understanding
Field observations become evidence through careful analysis. Your support helps fund data processing, laboratory analyses, scientific research, publications, and student training, improving our understanding of urban wildlife and the ecosystems that support it.
  • Inspire action
Research has the greatest impact when it is shared and applied. Donations support education, public reporting, community engagement, and conservation partnerships that help translate scientific evidence into informed decisions and practical conservation.
